I survived 2 full days of a classroom containing 25 kids each day. I am exhausted, totally. Today I signed papers to be a legal volunteer at the school. For it to turn into maybe a part time or even full time job with pay, I was given 2 forms to fill out and send in for a child abuse back ground check and a criminal background check. After I volunteer for 100 hours, they (the school) will have a meeting and deside if I am an asset to the school and worth hiring as a permanent employee of the school. There can also be oppertunities where I could be asked to substitute one day a week but for the kindergarten classes only. But that's only if I learn the corriculum and pass the criminal and abuse background checks, which I will pass.
On my list now is to get some comfy shoes and decent clothes to wear. My clothes are horrible, stained, and just plain ugly. Guess I will be going to Goodwill this weekend to see what I can find there. Shoes I have a big problem with. I have a very wide foot and my feet swell on the tops making it hard to slip anything on. Even my sneakers don't fit anymore. I cannot wear shoes the have even the slightest point. The toe area has to be rounded, sort of like waittress shoes, nursing shoes. Right now with the shoes I am wearing my feet hurt so bad. It feels like knives being pushed in and pulled out constantly, OUCH!!!!!!!!
Anyways I am very excited over this all. Am I too old for this though? I am 46 and my health is not 100% Some of the kids, well let's say over half of them are the most ignorant, rude, obnoxious little critters. I swear their deaf. But then there's the one's who are so good, answer all the questions and are so quiet and so well behaved that makes being there so worth it. And I think it is so cute how they were saying Rebecca's Mom when they needed my help. I told them to call me Miss Cindy. So all day I heard Miss Cindy, Miss Cindy, lol, and I loved it.
Well, I will go now. I have to get a few things done. I promise I will get to all your journals over the weekend. I have the next 3 days off. Monday is no school. I just wanted you all to know that I haven't forgotten about you. And I do miss hearing all about what's going on.
Love to all..................CINDY
Good for you! Best of luck with it!

I think this is wonderful news! What a worthwhile way to spend your day. I have always loved working with children and would love to have the opportunity to do so again. When I was younger i worked with P.R.O.P. and then went on to work with the mentally challangd and physically challanged. They were the happiest years of my life. But there was no money in it and I had to make a real living when I married. But to this day I miss it so. Enjoy every day. You will make a difference in so many childrens lives.

Comfy shoes is a PRIORITY! When my feet hurt, I'm just miserable! I'm like you, I have a wide foot. There are stores near here that specialize in wide shoes. I'm sure there's somewhere you can get a good pair of walking shoes there.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are enjoying it! And I KNOW Rebecca loves having you in her class.
Love ya,
Pam xoxox
you need to get good shoes if you are going to work...if the shoes dont fit, life ain't good. Glad you got to go and enjoy the kids...i just know Rebecca was so proud to have you there!

ReplyDeleteI always thought I would love to work with preschool or kindergarten myself. That is wonderful that this may turn into a job for you and get to be close to Rebecca too. My kinda job. So glad in spite of all the pain you are in that you had such a wonderful time of it. Those kids will be lucky to have you around.
ReplyDeleteTake care, Chrissie
Oh, this is so you. I bet they were so excited to have you in their class! What a wonderful day for THEM. I know what you mean about the shoes as I wear a 12. And a wide. I have the application here for substituting as I've seriously thought about it. Have such a great weekend with your wonderful family.

ReplyDeleteHugs, Barb
Cindy, have you ever tried Crocs? They are very wide in the toe, and weigh NOTHING....I LOVE mine and wear them everywhere. I've noticed all the nurses wearing them, too, and people who stand on their feet alot. I couldn't live without mine....try them!! Oh, and by the way, I don't wear the "real" Crocs -- I wear Target's version. They fit my feet better than the name brand. You may need to try on different kinds too to find the best fit.
ReplyDeleteTake care,
:) Carol
I was gonna recommend Crocs too.
ReplyDeleteThey also sell them at Walmart, Payless, even smaller drug stores.
Not the Croc brand and much cheaper, but I bet they'll work fine.
You'll love the ABSOUTLELY LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!

Hi Cindy you are doing a great job with those kids and I hope things will go well for you and you land up having a "paid" job. Good luck I hope that you don't overdo things though looking after children is a very satisfing job but can be very stressful. I agree with the other members Crocks shoes are so comfortable I am sure you will be able to get some to fit you and can be very cheep too. You take care Kathie.
ReplyDeleteI think it's great that you are working with those kids & no you are in no way too old. You have so much to give & you are in the right place to give it.
