WELL HERE IT IS 4 DAYS LATER AND THE HOSPITAL STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH DAN'S BACK, AND WHY HE CAN'T MOVE HIS LEGS. HE HAS FLUID BUILD UP AROUND HIS LOWER SPINE, LEGS AND AROUND HIS HEART. THEY HAVE HIM ON STEROIDS FOR THIS? SHOULDN'T HE BE ON SOME KIND OF WATER PILL? CAN THE FLUID BUILD UP BE THE CAUSE OF HIM NOT BEING ABLE TO USE HIS LEGS YET? IS THE FLUID BUILD UP AROUND HIS HEART DANGEROUS? THESE DOCTOR'S ARE NOT GIVING US ANY ANSWERS. ALL WE HEAR IS, WAIT FOR TEST RESULTS, AND ONLY TIME CAN TELL. OK, TEST RESULTS, LET'S SEE, THEY'VE DONE 4 MRI'S AND 3 CAT SCANS ALREADY, AND THEY STILL HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR US. WTH????? JIM AND JOE WENT TO ATLANTIC CITY THE OTHER NIGHT TO PICK UP EMMA AND THE BABY, AND THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE DAN. HE WAS AWAKE AND HAD OXYGEN MASK ON HIS FACE AND WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE THEM HE WAS TRYING TO CHAT AWAY WITH THE MASK ON HIM, LOL. JIM HAD TO TELL HIM TO CALM DOWN AND BREATHE. BUT THEY SAID DAN WAS IN GOOD SPIRITS, HE COULDN'T MOVE, BUT HE KNEW WHO THEY WERE. THE BOSS OF THE UNION CAME OVER TO EMMA'S YESTERDAY. HE TOLD EMMA THE UNION IS PAYING TO HAVE DAN TRANSPORTED HERE TO PHILADELPHIA TO THE THOMAS JEFFERSON HOSPITAL. THERE HE WILL RECEIVE PHYSICAL THERAPY. IT IS A GREAT HOSPITAL. ONE THING I CAN SAY ABOUT PHILADELPHIA HOSPITALS, THEY ARE GREAT. AND THE UNION GUY TOLD EMMA DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING IF SOMEONE COMES TO HER. DO NOT TELL THEM ANYTHING. IF THEY WANNA KNOW ANYTHING THEY ARE TO CALL HIM. THEN HE TOLD EMMA ANY BILLS FOR HER HOME, KIDS, GROCERIES LET HIM KNOW AND HE WILL TAKE CARE OF IT. HE HANDED HER AN ENVELOPE AND IN IT CONTAINED 500.00. HE SAID THERE IS MORE COMING. THEY ARE TAKING UP COLLECTIONS FROM ALL THE UNION WORKERS FOR HER AND DAN. HE TOLD EMMA THAT DAN IS PART OF THEIR UNION FAMILY, AND THEY TAKE CARE OF THEIR FAMILY. MY EMMA IS REALLY AMAZING ME. SHE IS SUCH A TOUGH LADY. SHE IS HANDLING THIS SITUATION ALOT BETTER THEN I AM. WITH HER HUSBAND IN SUCH BAD SHAPE AND IN THE HOSPITAL, 3 KIDS AT HOME AND IT BEING CHRISTMAS THIS CHILD OF MINE IS REALLY HOLDING IT TOGETHER. SO THAT'S WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR. HOPEFULLY IN A COUPLE DAYS WE WILL KNOW MORE. AND AS FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER, I AM COOKING. I TOLD EVERYONE EMMA CAN'T HANDLE IT RIGHT NOW. SO I WILL FIX A TURKEY AND A HAM AND SOME SIDES AND IT'LL BE JIM AND I, OUR KIDS AND GRANDKIDS AND UNCLE BILL HE FOR DINNER TOMORROW. AND POSSIBLY JOE AND MOMMOM I ALSO. I'LL BE TIRED YES, BUT I WILL DO THIS FOR MY CHILD. DAN WAS TOLD THAT ALL MY FRIENDS/FAMILY HERE IN JLAND ARE PRAYING FOR HIM. HE SAID TO TELL YOU ALL THANK YOU SO MUCH. HE SAYS HE REALLY NEEDS PRAYERS RIGHT NOW. HE WANTS TO BE WELL AND WALK AGAIN SO HE CAN BE HOME WITH HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN. I BEST GET A MOVE ON HERE. I WANT TO GET DRESSED AND THEN GO TO EMMA'S HOUSE. I AM GOING TO TEND TO THE KIDS WHILE SHE GOES DOWNSTAIRS AND WRAPS THE GIFTS SHE GOT FOR THE KIDS.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE...............
LOVE TO ALL.................CINDY
When you ask them about the water build up they just tell you to wait until the test results?? Did you ask them about the damage that could do to the heart and why not any water pills to reduce this?? Gee, personally I have no clue. Man, this is just awful. However on the bright side...the Union is AWESOME and is really taking care of there needs and THAT is something that is RARE these days. I'm grateful for that and I know all of you are to.
ReplyDeleteDoes he feel pain in his lower body still? Move his toes??
Love you
Ang

I know this sounds awful, but waiting is the best thing. All that swelling has to go down I'm sure it's causing pressure everywhere. IF it gets bad enough I would think they would drain it somehow. Emma is a rock now, but when this is over the child will fall apart when she finally has a chance to feel her emotions. There's not time for that stuff right now. It's kinda like you're living in a blur everything is slow motion. I hope she doesn't make herself sick with worry. I'm glad to hear that Dan was so excited to see the guys and that the union brought Emma money I was wondering about that myself. I mean her husband is no longer able to work. I need to get in gear too. Just wanted to stop by and tell you I'm thinking of you and hope you all have a Merry Christmas as much as possible. You do still have many things to be thankful for. Maybe this is God's way of getting Dan to take a break and rest.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas!!
Love and Hugs, Chrissie
That is great that the Union is doing that for her. My prayers continue to be him and all the family. Helen
ReplyDeletePrayers for your family Cindy. Its no surprise to J-Land that Emma is handling this so well....just look who her Mom is!!
ReplyDeleteDear dear Cindy, I am continuing to pray for Dan & all the family. Have you all on some of my Prayer Group lists also. Not giving up, miracles happen.
ReplyDeleteSug
no news is good news ...yes it's true but sometimes no news can drive you INSANE!!!....tell emma to hang in there and have a merry christmas / happy new year and i am continuing to pray for you all...and so has my church.
ReplyDeleteCindy, Continuing to pray for Dan, and wishing you a blessed Christmas with hope that Dan gets better quickly, Love You Lisa XO
ReplyDeleteMy dear Cindy, It is so distressing for us not to be able to help you all. It is true though what the hospital has said. I does take a while sometime for a real diagnoses to be made. Until the swelling goes down it may be difficult for the Drs. as well. They do really know what they are doing..unfortunatley they find it hard to give the true picture simetime to relatives. (I heard of someone who had been a bad car accident reacently and is also paralised at the moment but has got a little movement in his feet...It has taken at least two weeks for the Drs to say to his wife that although he is paralised at the moment he will recover but it will take a long time) Never give up hope.. So I pray that same will be said of Dan. The bruising also means it is sometimes difficult to make a true diagnoses. Take heart dear Cindy hold on. All will be well.....Try to have a great Christmas as the wee ones will be so worried as well. and not know quite how to behave. God Bless Love Sybil xxxx
ReplyDeleteWISHING YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS! I am so happy to hear how they are taking care of you all. Dirk wanted to know what I was crying about and I told him and read it to me. This blessed me so much. When the swelling goes down they will be able to tell more about what his injuries are. I'd just be guessing to say his spine is fused and there's swelling from that. It should go down very soon with the medicine and with time. The fact that he's talking is amazing. It is DEFINITELY not his time to go. You take care of YOU ok?
ReplyDeleteWE LOVE YOU ALL VERY MUCH HERE IN GA!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Meryy Christmas Cindy. It sounds like you are more than coping to me. It's amazing what you can do when you want to help your child and her loved ones. Good on ya!
ReplyDeleteSending loving vibes to you and you whole family. Gaz xxxxx
Cindy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update! Dan, Emma and your family have been in my thoughts. They do say sometimes that no news is good news....at least that is what doctors have told us over the years about my son. But it is SO frustrating not knowing. I hope in spite of all that is going on you still have they best Christmas possible. You will still be in my thoughts and prayers.
Hugs, Robyn
Hi Cindy,
ReplyDeleteI cannot imagine how hard this is on you all. I hope they have some answers for you all soon!! Have a good Xmas and know that I am keeping you all in my prayers.
Thank you for the update. Dan has been on my mind a lot!
Love ya..

It must be very hard for you when you don't know what's going on, and all you want is answers. I suppose they have to wait until all the swelling and bruising and the fluid has gone down before they can tell what if any damage has been done. Dan's body has had a terrific trauma and it needs time to start healing. Four days is not a long time when you just fell 18 floors. Try to take it one day at a time, I know that's easier said than done.!!! He's awake and talking, that's got to be a good sign.!!!
ReplyDeleteI think you are coping fabulous, I would be a mess!!!
Perhaps you will feel better when he's in a hospital you know.
Sending prayers and hugs your way.
Carolxx
i am praying for Dan and i am glad he will come closer to home and i pray Emma finds out soon, like NOW, what is going on.....how wonderful that his employers are standing beside him and helping out!
ReplyDeleteLove, lisa
Fluid build up will cause a lot of pressure and if that pressure is on his legs, it could affect his movement. Glad to know that he is doing better though. Great his firm are looking after him. Merry Christmas once again dear friend.

I'm so glad they have such a great support system with the union. It is like family! I am also glad to read they are bringing him closer to home and he'll be placed in a good hospital. I'll pray that God will continue to heal Dan! God Bless each of you!
ReplyDeleteI feel so bad for Dan and Emma....right here at Christmas too. I hope and pray he can soon find some relief, get the right diagnosis and meds. I hope you have a great Christmas Cindy!
ReplyDeletei grew up in a union home and I can tell you that the union WILL take care of them. They unions up there are very proactive and don't kid around with stuff like this. Emma is in good hands.
ReplyDeleteShe will be much more comfortable being able to be at home while Dan begins his recovery too.
take care and YOU get some rest!
You can add my name to those praying for Dan and all of you. G-d bless.
ReplyDeleteThe little town we live in do not favor unions...most jobs around the deep south here have NO UNION to protect the workers.Georgia is a "right to work" state...which basically means..."you have a "right" to work the job or quit">>>>no complaining allowed... ...no ifs, ands, or buts allowed either. Not a good situtation to be in when you have been hurt on the job. Glad Emma and Dan have the Union to back them.
ReplyDeleteI AM praying...
love ya,
carlene
keeping Dan and Emma in prayer:) God Bless you Cindy for taking over and doing dinner for all
ReplyDeleteDeb
Praying for a Christmas miracle.

I am typing this from NY at my sisters house...I STILL want to get something over to Emma, but finding someone during the holidays was crazy. Can you send me her address? Is she ever home? Can I send her some groceries or something? I will chat more with you when I get home tomorrow. When is Dan being transferred? Let me know what I can do because I'm not that far from you and could babysit or whatever you need.
ReplyDelete((hugs))
Jeanne
I sure hope they find out what's wrong with Dan already. His company he works for sounds so good. Thank heaven that Emma doesn't have to worry about bills or money right now.
ReplyDeleteCindy ~ Many prayers being said for you and your family. Godspeed. ~ Irene
ReplyDeleteCindy.. as far as Emma being strong.....well... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, my friend. You have been through a lot too, and have shown yourself to be strong also.
ReplyDeleteMy continued prayers for Dan.. and I'm glad the Union is standing behind them both!
Hugs

Cindy, I am so glad that your Emma is a strong young woman. I do believe that some folks, by nature handle big crisises well.
ReplyDeleteHang in, hang tough and know that your J-land friends are here pulling and praying for Dan and the family.
I am catching up on a full week of alerts so I just finished reading what all happened with Dan. I sure hope he will recover and they will find out what is going on and get him on the mend. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
