Lazy Lung/Broken Ribs

Dan had chest xrays, and the doctor looked over all his scans and xrays from other hospital. He says there is a slight fluid build up, but it looks as though it is working itself out. What is causing all Dan's problems right now is the fact that he is not moving enough. He wants him up and walking 10 an hour, not 10 minutes every couple of hours. He does not want Dan sitting in an upright position. He has to lay down when he is not up walking. He said Dan has a lazy lung causing his breathing problem. The lazy lung is due to Dan's ribs hurt so much, he is not taking deep enough breath's of air. Dan is to use a portable breathing machine, 10 breathes an hour to strengthen his lungs. The swelling in his throat is because he is taking too many percosets. 2 every couple of hours. Doctor said NO. Take 2 every 6 to 8 hours. That Dan wouldn't be in so much pain if he were laying down and not sitting up. He needs rest, not sitting up and watching tv. So, we will see how this doctor's order's are in Dan's healing process. The physical therapist was suppose to come last week and still hasn't showed up. Tomorrow I will contact them. Emma is too nice on the phone, lol. SO now she gets a call from mother in law. If she cannot handle this job, I want the name and number of her supervisor so I can get him another therapist who can handle it. That's about it so far. Thank you for your prayers. I know they work, because they sent Dan home. You guys are the best!!!!

Love to all..........Cindy

Thank goodness Dan is back again.  It is such a worry though.  do hoep that the therapist comes soon. she/he would be able to recomend the best things for Dan to do and he would probably listen more to her/him that he would to Emma or anyone wlse for thaht matter.  I know my Nephew in law usually takes note of the physio person...fer a wee while at least !!   try to have a bit of rest tpday Cindy..promise...Love  Sybil xx

  16. I fear they let him out of hospital too quickly but I hope now that he will start to improve with this new advice.  Where the heck is that therapist, hope you manage to sort this out quickly for him.  Keeping Dan and your family in my thoughts.  Hugs, Tells x

  17. Catching up here Cindy. It must be so painful for Dan to move around.  It's a good job he has you and Emma to push him.  I think you have to trust what the doctor says, and see if his way helps.
Sending prayers and hugs to you all.
    Take care

  18. I am glad that all this is something that be corrected. I was afraid all that swelling in his throat and tongue was due to allergies from his meds. Helen

  19. I feel so bad for you guys, so much going on with Dan. I'm glad he got checked out though. Now he needs to follow through on doctors orders.
Get him up and moving. I suppose it the best thing, although, I would rather lay in bed too probably at this point.
    God Bless you all

  23. Glad to hear Dan is going to be okay, he just needs to get moving and when not moving, get some real rest. I hope he gets through it all without too much pain.

  25. If he follows dr.s orders, he'll improve.  The percosets can get addictive.  He does need to lay down.  Get on 'em hard for not coming out there and doing physical therapy.  He needs it!

It's just amazing that that is ALL that is wrong with him.

  27. I will continue to pray for Dan and for another therapist that will be able to treat Dan. As a former LPN, I am reminded that we in the health care profession are here to serve; not be served.
